Setting up a Spam Filter in Microsoft Outlook Express:

The following is a summary for using message rules (filters) to help manage SPAM by sorting incoming Email using Microsoft Outlook Express. **Note: If you are using Microsoft Outlook, click here to see the correct instructions.

1. Click Tools then select Message rules, and then Mail.

2. The New Rule window will pop up. In the Select the Conditions for your rule window select Where the Subject line contains specific words. Then in the Select the Actions for your rule window, select Move it to the specified folder.

3. Click on contains specific words and enter the word 'SPAM'. Click the Add button and then click OK.

4. Once back in the New Mail Rule window click on specified to select the folder to move the SPAM message to. Then click on New Folder and name it 'SPAM' then click OK. Finally, click OK on the Move window

5. Give the mail rule a name, like 'SPAM', then your New Mail Rule window should look like the one below. Make sure it does, then click OK.

6. The Message Rules box will pop up. Select the rule SPAM and then click the Apply Now button. The Apply Mail Rules Now window will pop up. Select SPAM and click Apply Now.

7. Congratulations! You have successfully setup a filter for SPAM for your email for Microsoft Outlook Express. Now that you have a feel of how a message rule is created, you can create others. You can have several active rules on your mail program.

**NOTE: There is a possibility that some messages which ARE NOT SPAM could be moved to the SPAM folder. You may want to check the messages in the SPAM folder on occasion to see if you did actually want one or more of them.
