Terminology
Transferring a domain can be confusing, espeically when you don't
understand all the terms. Below we have attempted to give simple
definitions to terms that can cause confusion:
- Domain: The name where your website and email will be. (ex. artistrymarketing.com would be our domain name.)
- Registrar: the company where you purchase a domain. Examples include NetworkSolutions, Godaddy, and more.
- NS Record: this is a record at your Registrar that tells computers where to find your website or deliver your email.
- Website: A website is on a domain. A domain can have
many websites, however. For example, www.artistrymarketing.com is
a different website from my.artistrymarketing.com , but both are on the
same domain (artistrymarketing.com)
- Example: You would go to a Registrar to purchase a domain, where you would then place a website and email.
